The eighth edition of the Parle-The Hindu MetroPlus Pookkalam Contest, powered by Vodafone. The pookkalam contest, first held in 2007, has become the top contest of its kind in terms of participation, quality and the value and number of prizes. Only 50 teams can participate in the contest on a first come, first served basis. Vodafone customers can register at: Vodafone Store, Blossoms Apartments, Opp. NSS Karayogam, Sasthamangalam, Thiruvananthapuram, Vodafone Store, Next to Welcare Hospital, S.A. Road, Vyttila, Kochi, and Vodafone Store, Happy Tower, V.M. Basheer Road, Mananchira, Kozhikode. The registration fee is Rs.100, refundable after the event. Each team should have five members, including the team captain, out of which three should be women. The pookkalam should be prepared within two-and-a-half hours, which includes the time for drawing and flower arrangement. The teams adjudged first, second and third will receive Rs.20,000, Rs.12,500, and Rs.7,500 respectively. Ten teams will get consolation prizes of Rs.1,500 each. All teams will get Rs.750 as reimbursement for the cost of flowers. The best traditionally dressed team and two individual participants will get special prizes.
